Land that was once a parking lot for students and faculty is now in the final stages of becoming a new building for learning. Looking at the parking lot, one wouldn’t have guessed the ground could be extricated for something great. Walking past the work site I am inspired by its progress. When the work began it seemed like the process would take an eternity to be completed. Our dreams can feel just as distant; however, we have to remain dedicated to constant movement. Let this example remind us to never give up; everything we’re working so hard for is just beneath the surface getting ready to break free.
Standing proudly in front of my place of residence stealing my breath, existed a tree filled with the most vibrant purple petals! Instantly I knew I had to capture the image on film. As with things we take for granted, I procrastinated on recording its beauty. On a Friday I said “No more! I will take the photograph tomorrow!” Saturday afternoon, intending to keep to my promise, sauntering outside - camera in tow, I was ready. Instead of being greeted by the glory of violet, I was halted by a tree housing pink petals, with purple foliage discarded on the ground. Devastation filled me. After dismissing the idea of the photo shoot, I suddenly realized the greater truth: We have to appreciate what we have, while we have it. In the end, I was appreciative of the reinforced wisdom: A missed opportunity merged into a beautiful lesson.
